My Favourite song

For the last week of term 3 and the first week of term 4 we have been working on our favourite song. First we had to pick a song that we liked and then create a Google Slide, after that we had to insert the lyrics and highlight the nouns, adjectives, verbs and pro-nouns in different colours. Finally we wrote about why we picked that song and what it means to you.

I picked You Baby bye Nesian Nine

I picked this song because it is a pretty chill song with deeper meaning and it has no swear words or cussing it’s just straight up.

Our Film: Life in NZ

We had been learning about different film techniques and the angles that you can use, we answered question about other short films that we watched and we got an idea of what we wanted to do for our Film.

We started off with brain storming and our first idea was do to a short film about Bullying we discussed the props and the roles of that we each had, however we decided we weren’t disciplined enough to do this type of film so we thought really hard and we thought hey why don’t we do life in NZ. We planned the different scenes where we were going to film and roughly what we were going to say.

We had about 3-4 days to film and to edit. Our first scene was an introduction that flowed smoothly into the next scene where I (Aumaarire) (one of the main characters)  talked about one of the best places to visit in NZ and why it is so popular and that is Rotorua I talked about the geothermal activity and the tourist attractions.  The next scene was Legacy’s where she talked about the city of sails (Auckland) and why it’s so popular. Then Nyla and I talked about Maori culture, what a Marae is and why we have a Marae, After that Nyla & Legacy talked about the common food icons in NZ from the local shop the four square and why they’re so well liked. The next scene was Me talking about the educational opportunities offered in NZ. The folowing scene featured Legacy talking about the Kiwi and why its is the national icon of NZ along with the silver fern.  We then showed the bloopers and our several mistakes.

Our film was shown to the rest of the school they placed their votes we didn’t win but I am proud of what we achieved. We are also going to the Kaikohe Film Festival on the 11 of September 2025 to watch the films from other schools and what they have to offer.

I am happy about how the film turned out and a big shout out to Legacy (main character and editer),  Nyla (camerawoman, editer and main character) and Te Maioha (side chracter and editer) and finally Whaea Anette and Bofy who assisted us and guided us throughout our film.

Our Film Study Learnings

1/08/25       So far throughout this rotation we have been learning about film, the different techniques and the angles, at the end of this rotation we watched a short film and had a test about our understandings of film we took notes and created a film of our own at first it was quite difficult coming up with ideas but as we progressed through we ended up doing “Life in NZ” it was all about the icons, places to visit, our culture and native bird the Kiwi we had about 7 hours total to complete this film to brainstorm, come up with ideas and shoot the scenes. In the end it was a learning experience for all our Tauira in 9T and together we ended up with 4 films 2 of them were chosen to be shown to the entire school in hope of being entered into the film festival. We have been learning about film for about 1 and a 1/2 months watching films, answering questions and letting our knowledge blossom in experience.

Culture

In Social Studies Whaea Honey asked us if Culture is learnt or are we born with it? I toku whakaro Culture is learned. Your Tuakiri (what you look like and your DNA)  is physical and what you’re born with however culture is learned eg:as you grow you learn to go to church the meaning the tikanaga and yeah, Culture is the way we do things and makes us who we are even if you were born Pakeha but raised in a Maori environment or the other way around. Culture is learned and where you come from, your blood and looks won’t change but your beliefs and way you do things can.
